Iris sat at her desk back at The Right Sort, feeling useless.

“Phyllis?” she asked. “It’s Iris Sparks. Yes, it’s been a while. Could you do me a favour? I’m vetting a candidate for a possible marriage, and I wanted to speak to men who served with him in Burma, if there are any about. His name is Remagen. Potiphar Remagen. There can’t be too many of those in the British Army. Wonderful. Call me when you find out anything.”
